hello. my name is jim bishop. this is what i look like today:
t minus one day and counting until kyle gets here, and margaret and i haven't finished kyle-proofing our home. more to the point we haven't started. tonight must be a whirlwind cleaning spree--like the one margaret and i have promised ourselves every night this week. but i think with the pressure on, we will perform! last night, instead of cleaning house i ran some errands in preperation for the great cleaning project. i went and borrowed a vaccuum cleaner from benbrown. he probably doesn't know that yet. umm.. ben, adam lent me your vaccuum cleaner. thanks. i'll return it soon.
before going by benbrown's house, i stopped at bryanboyer's place, and he told me that we had to take adam to see the south austin goat. i love the goat so i'm always game for the journey. i don't think i love him as much as bryanboyer does, but i love him nonetheless.
then, we went to spiderhouse to get some coffee. well, we didn't really get coffee; it's way too hot here for that. i got iced herbal tea. bryanboyer got iced chai, and adam got... oh, i don't remember.
adam has a problem with computer operating systems. i think it relates to some childhood trauma. maybe daddy got too close to him with the trs-80, or crazy uncle louie used to hit him with the commodore 64. i don't know, but i had sit and listen to him rag on the beautiful new macOS X operating system. (which i am playing with on my powerbook!) for those of you keeping score, i now have macOS 9, windows 98, and a developer's release of macOS X running on my powerbook.
it's kickass. it's basically just a very cool window over a FreeBSD kernel. apple gives you ample opportunity to get down on the shell level and use the full operational BSD kernel, but they also hid the kernel well enough to keep from scaring people off. it's very pretty. the dock, which at first i found annoying, is actually very cool. the way application windows zoom in and out of it is breathtaking. they also moved all of their icons over to vector-based graphics which makes them scale like a mofo when you run your mouse over the dock.
i can't wait for the beta to come out so i can really get down and dirty with it, but that's still going to be a while. :-(
time to get back to work. ALL OF YOU!
